REMOVAL OF BANDS

The gastric bands are placed in a surgical position at the stomach. In certain situations, they may cause obstructive symptoms or migration to the gastric light. Their function is to make a containment of the gastric pouch, acting in a restrictive way. However, they might, yet, slide or migrate to the gastric light.

In case of the bands, while this occurs, it’s necessary to break it (brand’s dilatation) or remove it. The removal might be performed with an endoscopic scissors or lithotripters, when it’s at the gastric light or with the use of plastic prostheses, when it’s around the stomach. The dilatation is a way to break the band without its removal, which is also proved to be safety and efficient. All procedures must be performed in a clinical environment and most of the patients are released on the same day.

The band, when migrated to the gastric light, must be removed. For this, it’s necessary that the surgeon removes the postage placed at the barrel – subcutaneous on the patient. Through endoscopy, the band is sliced and removed with the support from of clamps from stranger bodies or straps.
