ENDOSCOPIC CAPSULE EXAMINATION
The endoscopic capsule examination doesn’t need sedation or an accompaniment. The patient will remain with a strap containing a recorder to capture images of the stomach, during the period of 8 to 10 hours. After the installation, the patient may return to work and will have to walk during the day and not lay down. At the end of the day, he’ll return the equipment at the endoscopic emergency room sector.
SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
Don’t eat any kind of meat (bovine, chicken or fish), don’t eat fruits with peel or seeds, don’t eat leafy vegetables (lettuce, watercress, spinach, chicory and others).
Ingest two to three liters of clear liquid during the day (water, teas, strained juices and Gatorade).
It might ingest white rice, mashed potatoes, strained gravies, pasta similar to noodles without sauce, salt and water biscuits, clear jellies, clear ice-creams and without milk, fruits without peel or seeds.
Make the last meal at 10:00p.m.
Don’t take any kind of medication during the morning.
Perform the examination in fasting.
Arrive at the scheduled time.
Wear comfortable and loose clothes.
Two hours after ingesting the capsule, the patient may begin to ingest clear liquids and four hours later, the patient will have the permission to make a light meal (pasta or puree). At the end of the day, the patient may eat normally again.
If the patient is taking ferrous sulfate (for anemia), it’ll have to be suspended five days prior to the examination.
