EXAMS

COLONOSCOPY AND RECTOSIGMOIDOSCOPY

The COLONOSCOPY is a little invasive exam that has the goal do evaluate the large intestine and the final part of the small intestine. For its performance, it’s used a flexible tool introduced through the anus with the use of a local anesthetic. In most patients, it’s performed a sedation to turn the exam into something more comfortable. It might be performed in an outpatient or clinical environment, with the determining factor being from the location to the patient’s age and clinical conditions.

The examination takes an average of 15 to 20 minutes to be completed at the discoveries dependencies and procedures that might be performed. After the exam, it’s necessary to remain about 30 minutes at the post-anesthetic recovery.

After the examination, and when the patient is wide awake, it’s already possible to ingest food. The feeding must be slight, but there’s not any kind of restriction for any specific food.

The patients that use antihypertensives medications must use them at the usual time and with a small amount of water. Diabetic patients that are currently using oral medications must not use them at the examination day. The insulin might be administered by half of its usual doses.

In case of anticoagulants, the doctor who required the exam must guide the patient about the possible needed time to suspend or interrupt its use.

SEVERAL PROCEDURES MAY BE INDICATED AND NEEDED. SOME OF THEM MIGHT BE PERFORMED AT THE SAME MOMENT, BUT OTHERS MAY NEED A NEW SCHEDULE AND COMPLEMENTARY EXAMS. BIOPSY OF THE LESIONS AND SMALL POLYPS ARE USUALLY PERFORMED AT THE SAME PROCEDURE. IN MOST CASES, MUCUSECTOMY AND ENDOSCOPIC DISSECTIONS ARE INITIALLY EVALUATED AND THE RESECTION IS POSTERIORLY SCHEDULED. OTHER ENDOSCOPIC THERAPEUTICS MUST BE EVALUATED IN A CUSTOMIZED WAY.

THE COMPLICATIONS IN DIAGNOSTIC EXAMS ARE NOT FREQUENT. A DISCOMFORT AT THE OROPHARYNGEAL AND ABDOMINAL AREAS MIGHT OCCUR. BLEEDING AND PERFORATION ARE POSSIBLE EVENTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE’S AN ASSOCIATED THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURE.

THE RESULT MUST BE WITHDRAWN BY THE PATIENT OR RESPONSIBLE AT THE SCHEDULED DATE.
