ECOENDOSCOPY OR ENDOSCOPIC ULTRASOUND
The ENDOSCOPY can be divided in HIGH and LOW. The HIGH ENDOSCOPY is the one performed through the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, and allows the evaluation of several areas and organs. The LOW ENDOSCOPY is performed with the introduction of the tool through the anal via and allows the evaluation of several lesions and organs.
The average examination duration if of 30 minutes, and might be performed in an outpatient character or with the hospitalized patient.
The patients that use antihypertensives medications must use them at the usual time and with a small amount of water. Diabetic patients that are currently using oral medications must not use them at the examination day. The insulin might be administered by half of its usual doses. It’s not necessary to dismiss anticoagulants.
THE ENDOSCOPY IS MAINLY INDICATED TO DETERMINE THE ORIGIN OF A LESION AND TO COLLECT THE MATERIAL FOR A HISTOPATHOLOGICAL AND CYTOLOGICAL STUDY. THE THERAPEUTIC POSSIBILITIES ARE DIVERSE AND INCLUDE: SUPPORT THE DRAINING AT THE BILE DUCTS AND PSEUDOCYSTS, TREAT THE ONCOLOGIC PAIN WITH THE ABLATION OF THE CELIAC PLEXUS, FOR INSTANCE.
THE COMPLICATIONS ARE EXTREMELY RARE AND, WHEN THEY OCCUR, IT’S GENERALLY SMALL BLEEDINGS AT THE PUNCTURE LOCATION, INFECTION, TUMOURAL DEPLOYMENT AT THE PUNCTURE’S PATH AND PNEUMOPERITONEUM. MOST OF TIMES, THESE ARE EVENTS OF A CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT, WITHOUT THE NEED OF A SURGERY. THE ENDOSCOPIC OR CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT IS RECOMMENDED, BUT THERE MIGHT BE THE NEED TO PERFORM AN URGENT SURGERY.
THE RESULT OF THE EXAMINATION MUST BE WITHDRAWN BY THE PATIENT OR THE RESPONSIBLE AT THE SCHEDULED DATE. MUST NEVER FORGET THAT, IF THERE’S HAD A HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY, THE RESULT MUST ALSO BE WITHDRAWN.
